Twists

Michelle walked beside the main street towards the path that led down to her house. Two little boys raced past her, with a woman shouting behind them to be careful they weren't run over by cars.Young boys, who were going to grow up to become men. Men.Michelle suddenly laughed out loud, and suddenly looked to see if anyone was watching her. Men amused M ichelle. Just a month ago,she had been a teenager,so sure men were totally tough, without a bone of weakness. But just a month into womanhood, and personal events in her life were making her rescind her decision about men.Of course she didn't know a lot of men,but she knew quite a few.And many of them were funny to her.Although they will never know this. Top on her mind was Kwasi. Her cousin Emefa's boyfriend. Cut

You were from a lecture, deep in thought, wondering what the lecturer, a historian from Russia, with that thick accent you could barely hear had been talking about. You couldn’t drop the class, because the only option would be a language course from a different country, and frankly you weren’t even too sure if you were well vest in English. You didn’t notice him till you bumped into him “I’m so sorry” you said, looking up to see who it was “No worries Efiba, you look worried, hope you’re good” “I’m goo...” You stopped short when you realised he had mentioned your name, ‘how do you know my name” “I live close to you, my name is Nana Sei” “Nice meeting you, have to run” you said and hurried off. He hadn’t really told you exactly how he knew your name, but that was the least of your worries. There was just something about him you couldn’t explain. Like the fact that his smile seemed not to reach his eyes, something cold that made you almost shiver, that made you want to get...

A FAMILY AFFAIR

KenaKrom was a small fishing village, which lacked any vibrant form of modern entertainment, the old folks were left to telling stories to their grandchildren at sunset to keep them entertained. The young adults gathered in the town square to listen to the men play drums while the females danced. The highlight of the people’s year was when they celebrated their festival. They watched as the chief priest performed various strange acts while the best drummers played to urge him on. After the festival he chose the most handsome looking young boy in the village to be taught by him and train him as a future priest. This year, rather surprisingly the gods had chosen who the villagers agreed was the most unintelligent child. Kenakrom’s richest family was the Nyarko-Ansah family. The Nyarko-Ansah family was not only the richest but the largest, and more than half of the people of this small village traced their lineage to this family’s ancestry. The village kingmakers came from that family, ...

CONFESSIONS

"Im here to see Father Braimah. "Could you please state your mission? " "To confess a fault"      Mensa felt he had to correct her, tell her it was 'sin', but one look into her eyes and he scuttled away to call Father. She had the coldest eyes he had ever seen. Which contrasted sharply to the softness of her face. Hers was one of those faces you never forgot. Radiant skin, flawlessly unspotted face. He had only seen such faces on the television in Aunt Dzifas shop when he was sent to buy something. Television sets were considered frivolous equipments in the parish. There was none to be found there. Compared to most of the women in Kofikrom where he was born and lived before coming to the city, to serve as altar boy in St Margaret Mary's Catholic Church.  Her face looked like God had taken extra care to carve out its details. When she realized Mensa was staring at her, she smiled. An easy smile that could disarm a serial killer and bring him on h...
